First Day Program

For a child who is living in poverty, the first day of school can be daunting and scary.

Without proper clothes, shoes and school supplies, a child who is already disadvantaged will feel left behind and lack the self-confidence to go after their dreams and achieve success.

We at SHAKTI hope to change that.

The First Day program is designed to give children from low-income families basic clothing and supplies so that they can focus on working hard and learning at school.

We are seeking donations of the following new items so that backpacks can be assembled and provided to the Toronto District School Board for distribution to those families which have been identifies by the schools as being in need.

Items needed:

all items should be gender neutral

• Backpacks

• T-shirts

• Long sleeve shirts

• Jeans

• Sneakers

• Underwear

• Socks

• School supplies such as: notebooks, pens and pencils, coloured markers or pencils, rulers, scissors, erasers
